Dart Cabinets & Backboards

dartboard cabinet While not absolutely necessary, you should really place your dart board either in a cabinet or on a backboard. It is a fact that you will miss the board from time to time no matter how good you are, mistakes do happen. In the case of a miss, you are going to want to protect your wall from amassing tons of little dart holes. There are plenty of pre-made backing boards and cabinets available to purchase, but there are also plenty of do-it-yourself options available to you as well, something as simple as a carpet remnant could be used for instance. Most cabinets also include either a chalkboard or wipe board on the doors to keep score on and some even come with lights.

There are some things to look for when shopping for a cabinet. Pay attention to the type of wood used to construct the cabinet as this can be a good indicator as to the quality of the cabinet. Check and see if the cabinet has a scoreboard; these are a great addition to a cabinet and I can't imagine buying one without a scoreboard. Take into account the other decor that you have in your room, getting a matching wood tone for instance. When you aren't playing with the board, you will most likely have the cabinet closed up so make sure it looks nice in your room. Check the dimensions, make sure that your dartboard will fit in the cabinet. This isn't much of a problem these days as most boards are the same size but better to be safe than sorry. Some cabinets also have a place to store your darts. If this is a feature that you want, make sure the cabinet you are shopping for has this ability. Finally, some boards have built in lighting. If lighting is a problem in your room, this can be a very effective solution. Here at diddleforthemiddle we have a preference for lit cabinets; they tend to look nicer and lighting is never an issue.

dartboard backboard When shopping for a backboard, there are some things to look for. Backboards come in a variety of shapes and sizes. You can get circular boards, square, rectangular or octagons. Choose the one that fits your room best. Take into account the decor in the rest of the room; you want the backboard to look natural in your room and blend in - you want both form and function. If you don't want a permanent backboard, look for one that can easily be removed and stored. There are folding backboards built for this very purpose. Size is also very important. If you are new to the game, you are probably going to want a bigger backboard; experienced players will not need one as large. You can also get lit backboards which can help a lot if lighting is a problem in your room; they also look great.
